Sarah is a Foreign Service Officer posted to the US Consulate in São Paulo, Brazil. She completed her Ph.D. in the Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies at Brown University and published a book on postcolonial relations in the Portuguese-speaking world.
Mariana is building her future as an Associate Project Manager at Moravia.
Madison works in Business Intelligence at Deloitte with a research focus in Latin America.
Michele works as a freelance translator and is hoping to attend the Bread Loaf Translators’ Conference.
Elena received a Fulbright ETA award (English Teaching Assistant) to work at the State University of Rio Grande do Norte, in the city of Mossoró.
Since his summer at the Portuguese program, Jonathan worked as an environmental scientist, and then as a carpenter, before making a career change into the field of mental health. He currently works as a counselor in a school for children with trauma histories, and is planning to enter a graduate program next year. He hopes to eventually to create a therapy practice involving physical movement in the outdoors. He lives with his wife, Nina, and two young daughters in Oakland, CA.
Jennifer is a PhD student in the Department of Sociology at the University of Cambridge studying housing rights activism in Rio de Janeiro.
Kyle received a Fulbright ETA award (English Teaching Assistant) to work at the University Federal of Uberlância, em Minas Gerais. Besides holding a major in International and Global Studies with a minor in Latin America, Kyle is a skillful magician. In addition to teaching English, he will be partnering with a non-profit organization called Magicians Without Borders and aims to use magic to entertain, educate and empower the youth in Uberlândia.
After completing a Fulbright in Brazil and a few years at nonprofits in Chicago and Dallas, Ervin is currently pursuing a joint MBA/Master of Environmental Management at Yale University.
After graduating from the Portuguese Language School, Michael worked in Brazil for a year as a legal assistant for Milbank in São Paulo. Now he works at a private equity fund in New York.
Georgia received a Fulbright ETA award (English Teaching Assistant) to work at the State University of Vale do Acaraú, in the city of Sobral (Ceará).
Olivia is a Foreign Service Officer for USAID and is currently posted in Mozambique, where she's happy to be able to speak Portuguese every day!
After finishing her PhD, Anne founded and runs the website languagelearningathome.com, where she helps homeschooling families find the best resources and strategies for teaching foreign languages to their children.
After her work in nonprofit development for various organizations in Colorado, Guatemala, and Peru, Emily now works as a grant writer for Friends of the Earth, a progressive environmental nonprofit based in Berkeley, CA.
Lizz has been living in São Paulo since 2011. Now she is married to a Brazilian and she owns an English-Portuguese translation business, where she works as head translator and interpreter.
Rachel works at Etsy as a designer.
After living in the Eastern Caribbean on-and-off since 2011, researching and facilitating participatory mapping projects, Aly now lives in Denver, Colorado. She works as a cartographer for National Geographic Maps, conducts freelance GIS work at Tombolo Maps & Design and does a bit of work for the conservation NGO Birds Caribbean as well.
Juliana works at UnidosUS in Washington, DC and is pursuing a Doctorate in Education at Johns Hopkins University where she is researching the cognitive and socioemotional development of immigrant English Learning youth.
Rafael teaches Spanish dual language kindergarten at a progressive school in the South Bronx. He hopes to one day teach Portuguese dual language!

Achal works in India, Brazil, and South Africa working on access to life-saving medicines.
Alexandra is currently working remotely as a Localization Project Manager at Venga Global.
Cecily works as an Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies and Digital Humanities at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Jeimy graduated from Middlebury College (International and Global Studies) and started a position as Partner Manager at Facebook, in Chicago. She hopes to move to São Paulo to work in the same position.
Olivia graduated from Tufts with a major in Community Health and a minor in Portuguese. During her exchange program at Pontifícia Catholic University of Minas Gerais, Olivia enhanced her research proposal with the goal to return to Belo Horizonte and complete her work. She received a research Fulbright scholarship, and during the year of 2018 she will be based at Federal University of Minas Gerais, examining both formal and informal trash and collection systems in the state’s capital.
Jake is a 2018 Fulbright English Teaching Assistant at the Universidade Federal de São Carlos in São Carlos, SP, Brasil.
